VPN

tl;dr

Download the OpenVPN config from our repo.

In order to connect from home to the ITB, we offer a VPN service that allows you to access the resources in the ITB network from anywhere in the world. Connecting your laptop with the VPN service makes it appear as if it were connected with a cable1.

The software we use for our VPN service is OpenVPN, which is available for most computer platforms and even phones and tablets.

The configuration for individual operating systems will be discussed in sub-pages (see sidebar). What they have in common is that you will need to download the OpenVPN configuration from our git repository. Be sure to choose the right version. The common windows client only likes the file ITB-Berlin.windows.ovpn while most other clients are okay with the ITB-Berlin.ovpn version.

  1. Technically, the VPN connection will only be a layer 3 connection, which for example means that there is no automatic detection for our printers.
